Handford Dixon is a former American football player. He was born on December 25, 1961, in Alabama, USA. In college, Dixon played for the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a standout cornerback.
Dixon was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played for the Browns from 1981 to 1989, where he was one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He was known for his aggressive play and physical style.
Throughout his career, Dixon was named to three Pro Bowls, and he was named a First-Team All-Pro in 1987. In 1986, he led the league with nine interceptions. Dixon retired after the 1989 season with 26 career interceptions.
After retiring from football, Dixon has remained involved in sports. He has worked as a sports broadcaster and he has also coached youth football. He was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
